New Years Day and the trip home

Today was a very lazy day. I was tired of the sun so I didn't feel like being in the water but I just enjoyed the beautiful scenery of Sun Bay and read in the shade. It was amazing to me how empty the beaches are here on this island. I think even my parents might like these beaches....they normally don't like beaches because of all the people and they are sometimes very dirty but here it was pristine and quiet and beautiful. I love the fact that there are trees on the beaches here. Its nice to have some natural shade when you want it. And they just look pretty.

This beach, Sun Bay is a state park and there was a lot of grassy fields where these random horses were grazing. I don't know who owns them but it was kind of cool just the same. Looked a little out of place to see horses on the beach...but there they were just the same.

Pretty soon it became time to pack up and get ready to leave. We called a taxi to take us to the ferry. Alba was our taxi driver and she was so nice. She drove us to the ferry but first gave us a quick tour of the town of Isabel II. It was a quaint little town. Soon she dropped us off and we got to wait for the ferry again. While waiting we remembered Kathy (the ferry captain) telling us the church was near the dock and it was an old converted warehouse. So we found it and took pictures. Reminded me of my mission a bit.

We loaded the ferry as the sun was setting and I took some pictures of the town from the boat and also of the ocean with the sunset. It was beautiful.

Now...we arrived in Fajardo but had to get back to San Juan to the airport. So we began asking taxis how much. We even called a couple that had told us they would give us a deal. People would call out $80 and then we would leave. Pretty soon they would come running after us with a cheaper price. I even had a guy on the phone who told us $80 was the cheapest he could go. Then when I hung up quickly telling him we had someone cheaper, he proceeded to call me back 3 times. I didn't answer. We ended up getting the ride back for $60 so $30 a piece. It wasn't bad!

We got to the airport with tons of time to spare. We first went to Wendy's for some food and then proceeded to wait and wait and wait. We met some interesting people and didn't think we would get on the first flight to NYC but thought we'd have to go to Orlando and then NYC. We made it on with seats to spare (its a 3:00 AM flight). We hung out at JFK airport for a long while, napping, eating and finally our flight time arrived. We made it on with no problem and came home!

What a great trip! I miss Puerto Rico!
