Your Mama's watchin ya!

So in my family a lot of us LOVE BYU Men's Volleyball and we're pretty loyal fans. I have family members that will go to their away games in California quite often since BYU mostly plays teams from southern California.

To give you a bit of background....About three or four years ago, I was in southern Cal visiting for something and I went to a BYU versus USC game with my sister Shannon. Most of the fans there were from BYU which is ironic but very fun. Well, part way through the game Shannon decides she wants to start heckling some of the players and grabs a program so that she'll know their names. There was this one kid on the team who stuck out a little bit because he was good and his hair was longish. Well at one point I remember him complaining to the ref about something so another BYU fan heckled him a little bit for being a cry-baby. Oh and this guy's name is Jimmy.

Jimmy was up to serve next and his name is just ripe for the heckling. So when he went up to serve we started calling his name as did other BYU fans. Then just as he goes up to serve Shannon yells something like, "Go Jimmy, Your Mama's watching ya" and started to laugh at herself the way she does when she thinks she's so funny. I thought she was funny too.

Sitting in front of us were two well-dressed women. One turned around and informed us that Jimmy was her son and that she didn't appreciate the comments. We both felt sheepish and tried to calm her down. We were embarrassed but it was still hilarious!!!

Well this weekend I went to the final BYU Men's home game of the season against USC. I dragged my friend Andrea with me who is NOT a BYU fan but I made her wear BYU paraphernalia. Here's a pic just to prove it!

Well while we're sitting and enjoying the game. I look up and recognize number 18 and immediately turn to Andrea and tell her, "Ummm...that guy's name is Jimmy" and then I proceed to tell her the story. When I finished, we found a program just to confirm that indeed that is who it was and I was right. He's a senior now! Needless to say...I did not heckle him because his mama might have been watchin! I love you Shannon!!!!

I can't believe that you saw him again! So classic! And just for the record...I was very good at the Long Beach game and did not heckle any specific player. I have learned my lesson. :) Good times!
