The road to nowhere..err..I mean Klamath Falls

We decided to spend Memorial Day with Suzanne's family in Oregon. 1) Suzanne's dad is engaged and she wants to meet the new fiance and 2) It will be fun for me to meet her family as well. We both took Friday off of work and got in the car Thursday after work to begin the trek. We drove as far as Winnemucca, NV and stayed at Suzanne's favorite Days Inn there. (Actually its not...she thought we might die there). The drive was rainy and I got to experience Suzanne's fears of the road and not being in control. Every time we passed a big truck with all the water spraying from the big tires she would curl into a ball and start to say my name over and over again. :) Luckily we made it safely and all was well.

The next morning we drove on the most boring road of my entire life. We got off of I-80 at Winnemucca and drove on a seemingly endless road through some of the ugliest country I've ever seen. No towns, no cities, no villages, no people....even the rest areas were mere outhouses. Eventually we arrived in Lakeview and the scenery changed to a beautiful green and lush country side. The last hour and a half to Klamath Falls was pretty and I was thankful to just be out of the car when we got there.

Overall it was a GREAT weekend. It reminded me a lot of being with my own family. There was lots of lounging around and talking and of course YUMMY food. Suzanne's grandparents were already there when we arrived (they live in Northern Cal). Her dad's fiance Bridgette was also there.

The next day the rest of the family arrived (Suzanne's sister Kathleen and her boyfriend Bob as well as her foster sister Crystal and her fiance Sky). After everyone arrived Suzanne's dad took us all shooting. Now John (her dad) was very excited for this moment. Suzanne had mentioned to her dad she might want a gun and he ran with the idea. We went to some property where we could shoot and it was quite fun.

We almost died after Suz shot the first time and then immediately swung around and pointed the gun at all of us. She was just so stunned and excited she forgot that she wasn't supposed to point it at us.

Suz shooting

We all took turns shooting and with different guns. The highlight was when I got to shoot the 50 caliber revolver. It was CRAZY. Lots of power in that gun. We shot at gallon jugs filled with water. They would just explode in the air.

In the pic on the right you can see all the stuff flying in the air from the shot.

Sunday was fun as we went to church and saw some of Suzanne's old friends there including a family she was really close to growing up. We went to their house after church and had a lot of fun chatting. It was fun to see people that admired Suzanne so much. After church we had dinner and then a small engagement party for John and Bridgette. Dinner was prime rib and ice cream cake topped off the night!

The weekend passed all too quickly and on Monday we had to make the long drive home. I will miss the hearty breakfasts! Bacon and eggs and pancakes and sausage every morning (including the morning we left really early....the family got up early and had breakfast with Suzanne and I...and John and Bridgette got up and cooked it....very nice of them). The drive home wasn't as bad as I imagined it would be and we even saw a rainbow as we got to Provo. Very fun!
