Easter 2014

I'd better blog about Easter before it starts slipping through the cracks of my mind and becomes a distant, foggy memory. Can I just say we had a wonderful Easter! It was more like Easter Week for us. The Monday before Easter, we were invited to a BBQ / Easter egg hunt sponsored by a local realty company that a friend of ours works for. So, of course, we went for Family Home Evening. Um, the Easter Bunny FLEW in on a helicopter. Grace was absolutely giddy; first to see the Easter bunny up there in the chopper, and then later to actually meet him!

That little speck hanging out of the chopper is the Easter Bunny.

After the Easter Bunny extravaganza, Grace went and participated in the Easter egg hunt. She's old enough now to get the concept and more importantly, to hold her own. After the egg hunt, we grabbed dinner, and were just starting to eat when they started announcing winners of the raffle. The company was giving away a few rides on the helicopter. And holy cow - we were the first winners! Seriously, I don't think I've *ever* seen Boyce so excited. He could not believe we won.

So we halted our dinner plans and climbed aboard our helicopter for the ride. I sat with Connor in the front next to the pilot, and Boyce and Grace sat behind. Poor thing, Grace was absolutely terrified the entire time. The seats in the back didn't have windows or doors because it was a nice night. So even though she was buckled in she felt rather vulnerable. She was just sort of hunched over the whole time. :( But anyway, the pilot offered to take us anywhere, so we asked to fly by our house. It was SO cool! We flew over the Temple, too, which was just awesome. What a fun night it turned out to be!

Pretty much the same position she stayed in the entire time.
On Wednesday, Grace got to go to an Easter egg hunt with her little craft class she was taking at the local rec center. And can I just say it was the coolest egg hunt I've ever seen? It was at this little park, and they gave us parents each a list of everything the kids could find. They could get one large egg of each color, one juice box, one thing of Bubbles, one duck necklace, etc., and then 12 normal eggs. It was totally great because each kid was guaranteed to get everything on their list, and we got to take our time finding everything. Grace had so much fun wandering around all the little nooks and crannies of the park trying to find all the things on our list. Then, after the egg hunt, we all gathered back together and as part of her class, they supplied lunch. It was so great!

On Saturday morning, Grace and Connor woke up to see that the Easter bunny had delivered them some pretty nice looking Easter baskets.

Connor is excited for his new toy animal.

On Saturday night, Grace got to dye Easter eggs (for the first time). I'm pretty sure she thought it was fantastic. Then, on Sunday morning, we hid them around the house and she had a blast doing our own little egg hunt. She also got a new Easter dress to wear that day at church.

Why not stick your entire hand in with the egg? Yup, her hands were rainbow by the end.

Church itself was wonderful, of course. I love reflecting on Easter and its true meaning, which is that Christ was crucified, but on the third day he rose from the tomb, appeared unto Mary, and ascended unto his Father to be resurrected. I love that being resurrected, and being reunited with our own mortal bodies after we die, is a free gift given unto us all because of Christ's love for us. Even though Grace is still young, I tried this week to watch some short videos that portrayed this part of Christ's life, and to talk about it with her.

Since Boyce and I are ward choir directors, we led our choir through three beautiful songs. I was SO nervous because it was the first song I was directing, but of course it ended up being fine. And the choir sang beautifully.

That afternoon, we had a wonderful dinner to wrap up our wonderful Easter week.
