Riding a bike?

So teaching summer school has been quite the experience for me. Some days I feel like I've completely forgotten how to teach and I wait for it to come back....some days it does...others...well....those days are just interesting. I thought I would share some of my experiences from teaching 1st grade summer school.

Today was absolutely CRAZY. First of all my supervisor sent a cameraman to videotape my class for an instructional video. Well 7 years olds get excited if the wind changes so having video cameras in the room sent them all into virtual volcanoes. I was nervous enough to be videotaped but it also felt like they were all talking 10 decibals louder than normal and it seemed like there were 40 instead of 20.

To add to that excitement, they decided to repave the parking lot of the school where I'm teaching so nobody could get in the parking lot which made the kids late but also excited to see the big trucks and everything that was going on.

Then as if all that wasn't enough, the teacher who evaluates my students for reading progress decided to show up today to start testing my students since this is the last week. So she was pulling students out one by one. CRAZY. I felt like a horrible teacher all day long and was just really glad when the day was over.

I have some great kids and lets face it...at 6 and 7 years old...they are just funny and say the darndest things. Matthew is one of my special gems. He just struggles in general but is so darn funny. If I didn't laugh at him I might just hurt him because he drives me nuts. His ride is often late to pick him up and while we're waiting for his ride his favorite game is to run up to the lawn and then run away screaming about the snake who is watching him. It makes me laugh every time.

Averi is my primadonna and she makes me laugh when she's not driving me nuts. She's constantly flipping her hair back and strutting around instead of doing what she's supposed to do.

My favorite part of the day is writing because its interesting to hear stories from the perspective of a child. I'm sure their parents might have a different version of some of these stories....personally I prefer the child's version. They're funnier.
