My Grammy Fewkes

As I arrived home from my wonderful church history tour I received news that my precious Grammy had passed away. As I received the news, I reflected on something a friend on the trip had shared in her testimony. She said that it was always interesting to her how after we have wonderful, great moments (like the trip) in our lives, its almost like the Lord has been preparing us for a trial or some sort of hardship. I was very much at peace yet sad at the same time. Grammy had been struggling with the effects of a stroke and several smaller strokes after that. She had been alone a long time as my grandpa passed away many years ago with cancer.

I was only home a short time before leaving for California for the biannual hike with my brothers. I had some scheduling and flight conflicts and I feared I wouldn't be able to attend the funeral. After some schedule tweaking I decided to stay for the funeral and sing with my sister Lindy. We sang my grandma and grandpa's song, "Let the Rest Of the World Go By".

It was very nice to be with family during this time. My mom came up to Salt Lake for the funeral as well as my sisters Janel, Lindy and Shannon. We spent lots of time together at the viewing with cousins as well as at the funeral and graveside service the next day. The funeral was nice and I loved being able to sing with my sister Lindy. We learned this song when we were little and I've always loved that I know my grandma and grandpa's song. The words are very sweet and tender. I've included a recording of Lindy and I singing the song along with a couple of pictures of my grandparents that repeat throughout the song. I love you Grammy and Grandpa!
