My Dad started taking me on high sierra backpacking trips when I was 11. My brother Shad came on the first one but after that couldn't go on any more due to work, college, mission, etc. My brother Jerel never went on one of these hikes with us. As adults we decided to resurrect the tradition and we've started doing these hikes every other year. Brothers - in - law and nephews have slowly started to join us each year as we embark on a new adventure.
This year we decided to tackle Mt. Whitney and do a partial repeat of the original Mt. Whitney trip that Shad and I did with my dad in 1988. We will leave from Sequoia National Park on the west side of the Sierra-Nevada mountains and hike across the range and then up and over Mt. Whitney.
Immediately after my grandmother's funeral I flew to L.A. where my brother in law Jonathan picked me up and we drove to Bakersfield together to meet up with Shad, Jerel and Jerel's sons Chase and Jordan. We spent the evening dividing up the food and making any last minute preparations and then off to bed to prepare for an early morning start on Saturday.
