Getting There

So we got to the airport and checked in hoping we would somehow get on a flight with 11 seats and 10 people ahead of us. When we got there I saw my friend Mark (also a flight attendant, really more a friend of Karl's but I know him). He was flying back to New York to start work after the holiday. Well he volunteered to sit in a jump seat (the flight attendants seats) so that both Ryan and I could get on the flight to NYC. Thanks a million Mark!

The flight to NYC was uneventful except for the fact that I sat next to a guy that wreaked of smoke among other things and I started to get sick part way through the flight. I woke up and thought I might be sick but I took a walk to the bathroom and felt better with some fresh air.

We arrived at JFK airport which has got to be the nastiest airport in the country. We spent a lot of time here as we kept getting kicked off of flights. We finally made it on to a 4:00 flight which would get us into Puerto Rico by about 9:30. We knew by this time we needed to just stay in a hotel that night.

As we talked to people on the flight down, we found that the half of Puerto Rico that lives in NYC travels there for the holidays. Renting a car during this time is almost impossible and hotels are expensive and not that great. We found a hotel that was $100 a night and a book said it was decent so we called them and they had room.
The view from our "Balcony" Isn't it great?

When we arrived at the airport we tried calling several rental car companys but all were booked. We were tired and decided to just take a taxi to the hotel and get a rental car in the morning. We arrived and were excited to sleep. It had been a long trip. The front desk clerk promptly told us to wait. So we waited and waited. Finally the man at the desk said the clerk could help us. It was very odd. We got our room and checked in.

Our stylin bathroom and "kitchenette". Notice the patio furniture and the tv that is smaller than the microwave. The floor could use some work as well!

Nothing special....linoleum floors and cheap furniture but it was a bed and we were both grateful. I always think of hotels now in terms of my sister in law Camille. This would NOT be Camille approved....not even in desperate situations. :) What cracked me up was that the sign said it was a bed and breakfast (orange juice and coffee). It also said it was open 24 hours. Do some motels kick you out at midnight????

We went across the street to Burger King and got some food. Then we asked how close the beach was. We were across the street!!! So we went out onto the beach. We both called friends as we sat on the beach....dipping our feet in the warm water and enjoying the pleasant evening with the waves crashing. I can't believe we're in such an amazing place! Nighty night!

Ryan, in our motel room by my bed that was like sleeping on a board. That white door leads to our "balcony"!

Oh my goodness! I love the pictures of the brightly colored buildings. It reminds me of Mexico and Costa Rica. I think I did hear something about your trip to PR, but man I'm JEALOUS!!!
