There is hope!

Recently my wife and I have become aware of several people whose political beliefs have led them to live in fear. They are afraid and yet sometimes don't even seem to know really what it is they are afraid of. Its troubled me and I try to politically persuade them away from their fears but it doesn't work. Yesterday we had another such encounter. Instead of getting into a political debate I opted to just listen. My beautiful and wise wife chimed in and spoke of the gift that we have of the gospel and to know that everything will be alright. We needn't live in fear regardless of political affiliation or beliefs because we have hope in the gospel, in our Savior and in our Heavenly Father. Our church leaders are constantly speaking of hope and optimism if we do what's right. I watched the conversation change and our friend's whole demeanor changed as she said, "You know thats right. We do have hope in the gospel and I need to remember that!" It was a rewarding and humbling experience as I was reminded by my wife to rely on the Lord and let Him take care of things instead of trying to do them myself.

Today as I perused LDS.org the message on the home page was on....yup you guessed it....HOPE!

Here it is for you to enjoy!

I got really wrapped up in politics back during the primaries, including driving across the country campaigning in multiple places. It was very easy to become discouraged by the fears of our future leaders. However, the gospel is what helped me snap out of it. Whenever we go to general conference, the prophets and apostles words always encourage us to have faith, be believing and know of God. We can be happy regardless of things happening in the political realm. Thanks for your thoughts.

Interesting that you have had the same experience as me. We were talking after our walk the other morning and the same conclusion was reached. There are so many talks and articles in the Ensign about hope and hanging on. There is much peace in knowing who is really in charge! Perhaps it's our pride that makes us get all hot and bothered at the wrong things that are taking place. It's still important that we be aware and do what we can in our circle of influence and then trust in the Lord. Thanks for this reminder.
